A New Journey

Well, here we go. Meatless for 365 days. That means no bacon, no sausage, no BBQ sandwiches, no steaks (and my brother makes a fabulous steak).

What I can eat: fish, eggs, milk, cheese. And anything else that doesn't fit into the meat category.

I am not doing this for any other reason other than I have to have a cooking challenge to spice things up a bit in my kitchen - because sometimes you just get bored.

So each day, I will post what I eat, and what the challenges were, and new recipes that I try out.

Give me some hints: what blogs do I need to look at?

  1. Congrats on the goal...it's going to be difficult, but it's easy enough to get there. I was an omnivore for my entire life (and a good one), but gave up "food with a face" on August 31st, 2009. I haven't eaten meat since (January 13th today). With my wife, I run www.meatlessmarvels.com, which we try to update regularly, but we experiment so much that it's difficult to lock down a recipe for others to follow. So here's my one main suggestion:

Buy "Quorn" brand products. It's the best of the "tastes like meat" non-meat brands. It's an orange'ish box in the frozen organic section of your supermarket. We shop at Kroger, and it's always there. We really like the chicken versions of their products. Even if I go back to meat, I won't go back to regular chicken nuggets. The Quorn ones are just better, and aren't made from necks and feet and random stuff.

Other than that, one day at a time, and you'll get there. After the first month or so, it's much easier to stay with it. Feel free to comment or contact us through meatlessmarvels. We're happy to help :-) Good luck!

  2. I'm so excited to follow your journey (found you on Today's Housewife) -- we're doing the same thing at our house, though for different reasons. We're also not eating fish, but we are keeping eggs and cheese. The kids and I already drink Almond Milk, but husband drinks Cow milk and is keeping it. Anyway. Made my day to see someone else on the same quest at the same time. Enjoy!
